EN Would you tell us a little about yourself before starting the interview?
EN I have a background in art, photography, and horticulture/landscape design. I work as a Student Service Counselor and attend school part-time to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at California State University, Sacramento. The Ginkgo biloba tree is my most favorite tree for a couple of reasons. First because it is one of the oldest living species and second for the stunning yellow canvas of leaves it creates in fall. By creating my Fallen Ginkgo Art I have found a way to combine the things I am most passionate about, while also spending quality outdoor time with my husband Alex and two kids, Sagan age 8 and Emil age 4.
ES ¿Antes de empezar la entrevista, nos cuénta algo sobre de ti?
ES Tengo una fomación en arte, fotografía y horticultura, diseño de paisaje. Trabajo como Consultora de Servicios Estudiantiles y asisto a la escuela a tiempo parcial para completar un título en Arte en Filosofía en la Universidad Estatal de California de Sacramento. El árbol de Ginkgo biloba es mi árbol favorito por un par de razones. Primero porque es una de las especies vivas más antiguas y luego por el hermoso color amarillo de las hojas que pone en otoño. Al crear mi propio Fallen Ginkgo Art, encontré una forma de combinar las cosas que más me importan, mientras que también paso un tiempo precioso al aire libre con mi esposo Alex y nuestros hijos, Sagan tiene 8 años y Emil 4.
EN What were the reasons that led you to create these drawings with leaves?
EN I started raking patterns in the ginkgo fallen leaves in 2013 to make a more interesting backdrop for photos of my kids. Each year the patterns would become more elaborate and I would find new ginkgo trees to work on. I make the Fallen Ginkgo Art on the weekends when the university campus is not busy so, when the students, staff and faculty return from the weekends or holiday breaks they return to a nice surprise.
ES ¿Cuáles fueron las razones que te llevaron a crear estos diseños con hojas?
ES Empecé a rebuscar entre los modelos de hojas caídas de ginkgo en 2013 para crear un fondo más interesante para las fotos de mis hijos. Cada año los modelos se han vuelto más elaborados y he encontrado nuevos árboles de ginkgo para trabajar. Me doy cuenta de Fallen Ginkgo Art los fines de semana cuando el campus universitario no está ocupado, por lo que cuando los estudiantes, el personal y la facultad regresan de fines de semana o días festivos, encuentran una agradable sorpresa.
EN Did you take inspiration from some other artist?
EN I was inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy for his beautiful work with leaves and other elements of nature.

EN When you create, what do you take inspiration from? How are your ideas born?
EN I started with concentric circles that mimicked the rings of a tree and a simple 7 circuit labyrinth. I was inspired to make labyrinths in the leaves because my daughter Sagan was attending a Montessori pre-school at the time and labyrinths are used in some schools to promote mindfulness and meditation. The fall season on campus can be a stressful time with midterm and final exams, I thought providing some art for people to enjoy would help with stress or at the very least provide a nice distraction during a busy and sometimes stressful time.
ES Cuando creas, ¿de qué te inspiras? ¿Cómo nacen tus ideas?
ES Comencé con círculos concéntricos que imitaban los anillos de un árbol y un simple laberinto de 7 circuitos. Me inspiré para hacer los laberintos en las hojas porque mi hija Sagan asistió a una guardería Montessori y los laberintos se utilizan en algunas escuelas para promover la conciencia y la meditación. La temporada de otoño del campus puede ser un momento estresante con los exámenes finales y de mitad de período, así que pensé en dar un poco de arte para que la gente pudiera evitar el estrés o al menos proporcionar una distracción agradable durante un momento exigente y a veces estresante.
EN How long does it take to create these drawings?
EN The designs generally take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours to create, if they are more complicated or consist of multiple trees they may take longer.
ES ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas para crear tus diseños?
ES Los generalmente necesitan desde 2 hasta 6 horas, si son más complicados o están compuestos de árboles múltiples, pueden tomar más tiempo.
EN Which other types of artistic techniques do you like most?
EN I also enjoy making chalk art on the pavement, making crafts, baking and building things. My husband call me a tinker fairy because I have been known to make things late at night.
